Project Description:
Dr Zorn is conducting primary and secondary research with a co-author for a book project: Artists from North American Indian Cultures: a Biographical Dictionary, for Greenwood Press/Prentice Hall. The book will contain 80-100 biographies of individual contemporary North American Indian artiests. During this period, additional artists will be selected from a preliminary list, research will be carried out about them and their workds, and short biographical entries - including places to see the artist's work and a short bibliography will be written. Photographs will be selected illustrating the artist' work and institutions will be contacted to obtain photographic images. |
Student Responsibilities:
Assist Dr Zorn with research, including obtaiing sources, communicating with the artists, viewing images, writing bibliographies, and selecting images, with specific responsibilities based on student interest. Viewing any local exhibitions of American Indian art will also be done.

Interest in the subject, commitment to the project. Writing skills and research skills (which the faculty member will also be teaching) are important.

Project Description:
Work with Maya archaeological collecitons from excavations at the sites of Santa Rita Corozal and Caracol in the Archaeology Lab in the UCF Foundation Research Pavilion. Assist in digitizing and cataloging materials. Paricipate in hands-on analysis of materials and/or excavation as appropriate.

Student Responsibilities:
Campus: Assist in digitizing and processing archaeological records in the arcaeology laborotory (scanning and cataloging images; completing catalog cards; drafting field drawings).
Belize: excavations and laboratory analysis in conjunction with coursework.
|
Student Requirements:
Interest in anthropology and/or archaeology courses (anthropology major preferred); artistic and/or computer skills are useful. Additional requirements for field experience.

Dr. Silver is conducting an oral history project to document the history and actuality of Puerto Rican migration to Central Florida. The central question of the research is: How is central Florida redrawing Puerto Rican experience and how is Puerto Rico redrawing central Florida experience? |

Student Requirements:
Interest in the subject, commitment to the project, organizational skills. Writing skills and research skills (which the faculty member will also be teaching) are important. Command of Spanish desirable. |
