Mission Statement
The Burnett Honors College combines the intimacy of a small liberal arts college with the benefits of a large, metropolitan research university. The mission of the College is to provide a challenging academic program and a foundation for future achievement to UCF's most academically talented students. The College strives to be the best in creating a diverse learning community that fosters the pursuit of excellence, a sense of social and civic responsibility, and a passion for life-long learning.
The Goals of The Burnett Honors College

Overview of The Burnett Honors College at UCF
The Burnett Honors College at UCF, in affiliation with the National Collegiate Honors Council, is designed to attract and challenge students who have demonstrated an ability to achieve academic excellence. Honors students receive an education that prepares them to enter the best graduate and professional schools, as well as obtain distinguished careers in business and public service. The Burnett Honors College offers two distinct programs of study, University Honors and Honors in the Major.
University Honors
University Honors provides a special course of study to the most promising undergraduate students at the university. This program is geared toward incoming freshmen or students transferring from a community college with an Honors A.A. degree. Primarily, the focus of Honors is to combine smaller classes with greater expectations for a student's performance. From the first day of class, students will be asked to participate in the learning experience instead of merely observing it. In doing so, their performances as individuals and as teams will grow. In Honors, students are encouraged to develop their intellects in a way that will enhance them as thoughtful, productive, and creative individuals.
Honors in Major
Honors in the Major is a two-year program designed to encourage the best junior and senior students to undertake original and independent research in their major field under the supervision of a faculty committee. This research culminates in a thesis or creative project. Because of the diversity of student interests, academic departments regulate Honors in the Major course work. Honors in the Major is available to students at the Brevard and Daytona Beach Area Campuses. Each area campus has an Honors Coordinator assigned to work with students at these campuses. Area Campus Students interested in completing Honors in the Major should speak with their respective Area Campus Honors Coordinator. The Burnett Honors College Administration and Oversight
The Burnett Honors College administration currently consists of the Dean, the Associate Dean, the Director of Honors Advising, the Director of Honors Student Affairs, the Director of Honors Student Services, the Director of Honors Student Development, the Director of Undergraduate Research and Civic Engagement, the Director of Computer Operations, and the Director of Administrative Services. Oversight of the College is provided by the University Honors Committee, a Faculty Senate Reporting Committee, and consists of The Burnett Honors College Dean, the Associate Dean, one faculty representative from each of the four professional colleges (Business, Education, Engineering, and Health and Public Affairs) and three representatives from the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, there are three student representatives selected each year by the Honors Congress. The seven Directors of The Burnett Honors College serve as ex-officio members. Each University Honors Committee faculty representative from the four professional colleges and one selected from among the three Arts and Sciences representatives also serves as Chair of her or his respective College Honors Committee which is appointed by the college dean.
