USF Program Requirements (fourth UCF year to complete degree; first year of medical school in residence at USF)

Students must successfully complete all requirements of the medical school curriculum to graduate from the College of Medicine. Successful completion of the academic program of study contained within the first year medical curriculum is required for the completion of the Bachelor’s Degree in the Accelerated (3 + 4) Program and to continue in the medical program at USF. Curricular revision is an ongoing process at the USF College of Medicine, so the courses listed below may change. The program of study for the 2002-2003 first academic year at the USF College of Medicine is:

  • BMS 5007 The Profession of Medicine 4 Credit Hours
  • BMS 6206 Molecular, Cellular, and Genetic Basis of Medicine 7 Credit Hours
  • BMS 6821 Medical Ethics and Humanities 2 Credit Hours
  • BMS 6100 Human Anatomy 10 Credit Hours
  • BMS 6500 Physiology 4 Credit Hours
  • BMS 5190 Imaging for Anatomy 1 Credit Hours

  • BMS 6840 Behavioral Medicine 3 Credit Hours

The 4 plus 4 Option:

Students may elect to do a fourth year at UCF, following the more traditional pattern of four years of undergraduate coursework prior to receiving the Baccalaureate Degree, and then enter the USF College of Medicine. Students selecting this option must complete the same requirements as outlined in the Accelerated Program, but also have the opportunity to take more advanced coursework, and become involved in additional research activities. By adding the fourth year, students also have a larger choice of majors than those available through the Accelerated Program. Students may elect to decelerate at any point prior to October 31 of the third year.

Note: Rules and regulations of The University of Central Florida, The University of South Florida, The Burnett Honors College, and USF College of Medicine remain applicable for all students in this program. The program will be reviewed annually to determine if changes are necessary.
